Since its launch in 2004, Facebook has skyrocketed to become one of the most commonly used social media in the world. Despite the emergence of various platforms, Facebook (which is now one of the Meta Platforms products) remains relevant.
Of course, Facebook maintains the privacy of its users. However, as social media, we must be prepared with the risk of being exposed to strangers who are not necessarily well-intentioned. Therefore, the company made by Mark Zuckerberg created a feature called " Profile Lock ". Never seen? It looks like this:
Looks safe, right? Curious how to activate the Profile Lock feature on Facebook ? Check out the following method!
1. How to enable Profile Lock
How to use Profile Lock on Facebook is not difficult. From a smartphone (both Android and iOS), how to lock your Facebook profile is:
Open the app on your Android phone or iPhone, and tap on your profile photo on the homepage.
In the profile view, find the menu (horizontal three-dot icon) and tap it.
From the various options, look for the " Lock Profile " option. Tap on that option and Facebook will show you the activation of the Lock Profile feature.
Tap the " Lock Your Profile " option to confirm, and the Facebook profile is locked.
Apart from HP, this feature can also be activated by Facebook users on a computer. The method is similar, namely:
- Open the browser then type facebook. com in the address line, then press Enter.
- On the homepage, click on your profile photo to open the profile view.
- Look for the same menu icon as on the cellphone (usually under the Edit Profile option) then click the menu.
- From the various options, look for the "Lock Profile" option and click on it.
- A pop-up message from Facebook will appear to confirm your choice. Click "Lock Your Profile", and your Facebook profile is already locked.
Don't want to lock your profile anymore? You can turn off the Profile Lock feature in the same way to access the menu on your Facebook profile. The difference is, you can find the "Unlock Profile" option. Follow Facebook's instructions, and your profile is unlocked.
2. What happens when locking a profile?
According to Facebook's information, when we see a blue and white padlocked shield on someone's profile (a sign that the account has locked their profile), we will only see the contents of that account's profile that are allowed to be viewed by foreign accounts that are not their Facebook friends.
Well, this will also apply if your Facebook account is locked. If you lock your Facebook profile, other accounts can't see your profile content. Only your Facebook friends can see:
- Full size profile and cover photo.
- Upload Story .
- Upload new posts and photos.
Facebook reminds that with the Lock Profile feature, the status sharing settings will change, from Public (can be seen by everyone) to Friends (only friends). So, only your Facebook friends can see your uploads.
In addition to the limited information in the "About" column, the profile review feature and review tag will light up. In other words, only your Facebook friends can comment and share your posts , upload posts on your profile, to tag you ( tag ) in their posts .
3. Not yet available in several country, how about it?
Interested in trying it? Wait a minute. If you're looking for a way to lock your Facebook profile, the social media will pop up warnings like this:
"This feature is not available anywhere at this time. You can only lock your profile in certain countries."
Unfortunately, this profile lock feature is only available in certain regions and has not touched in several country. Generally, this can be circumvented by using a VPN or by changing the language setting on Facebook to a region that supports Profile Lock (for example, like India or Bangladesh).
4. Another option to keep Facebook profile
However, the option of changing the language/region or using a VPN only to lock your Facebook profile can be confusing, inconvenient, or even dangerous. So, Facebook suggests that no need for Profile Lock, Facebook users can keep their account secure with this feature:
- Use the Privacy Checkup feature .
- Choose posts , photos, and other information who are shared with (select the "Friends" option).
- Edit the basic info and choose who can see it (select the "Friends" option).
- Change the Story privacy settings .
- Enable the Profile Review and Tag Review features in the " Profile and Tagging " settings so that only your friends can tag you or comment on your profile.
- Be more selective about who can befriend and/or follow your account.
- Decide who can search for your account using your e-mail address or mobile number.
No hassle, right? At least, these steps are available on Facebook, so you don't need to change your region/language or use a VPN. The security? Equivalent to Profile Lock, really!
